The Millstone is located on the edge of the pretty village of Hathersage looking up the Hope Valley, in the glorious Peaks. This old coaching inn has been welcoming visitors for centuries, & makes an ideal base for exploring the many different attractions the Peak District has to offer. With Chatsworth House, Castleton, the Derwent Valley & Kinder Scout only a few minutes away, it’s hard to believe that the centre of Sheffield is just a 15 minute drive away over the moor.

A disgustingly grey & wet day today, so on a brighter note, here’s some shots from the summer of a real hidden gem very close to the Millstone
‘Alport Castles’ - above the Snake Pass is at over half a mile long, the largest landslide in the United Kingdom. Its name comes from the debris from the landslide, which has produced several gritstone mounds that tower over the valley and appear from the distance to look like castles. Viewed from a distance the largest of these, the “Tower”, resembles a full-scale motte and bailey castle. With care, it can be climbed, with spectacular views from the top
Tricky to get to, but well worth the hike when you arrive. You may wish to add it to your list…when the weather improves!

They’re approachable, efficient, really helpful and will happily let you know about the walks direct from the Inn. It’s a perfect base for touring the area and the food is absolutely delicious. We stayed 4 nights and the food was amazing every night. The breakfast was superb and really set us up for the days walking and sightseeing. Quite a rare sight as they are only in full flow when the reservoir reaches its capacity of 28 million cubic metres of water…as it certainly was yesterday! From tea pots and knives, to bus shelters and traffic lights, his wide ranging influence is celebrated here and the on site exhibition will prove an eye opener for anyone interested in design. At the attraction is a museum, featuring some of Mellor’s groundbreaking work, a cafe that champions local produce, and a superb craft and gift shop. The circular factory that is used to manufacture cutlery has won countless design awards, tours being available on Sunday (pre-booking required)

`Had a fabulous stop-over at the Millstone. Manager couldn`t do enough for us. Free to stay in the car park as long as you dine in the pub or £5 per night. Food delicious. View amazing & the car park a lovely size. 15 minute walk into Hathersage. Would definitely recommend.`

A crowd of a couple of hundred enjoying it at 5:45 this morning. A (very) early start, but well worth the trip during your stay with us. If the sky is clear, you won’t be disappointed & will be back in plenty of time for breakfast! 👍 ☕️
